Negotiating Bottlenecks

Significance of Extinctions

Kaupapa; the purpose of this project

Our planet hosts many interlocking ecosystems, rich in life and the substrates supporting that life.

And we ourselves are a part within that richness.

The purposes of this project are to encourage protection for all that life, to safeguard and act as guardian, so that future generations may enjoy life and achieve the potential of the varied species.

This supportive work may be casual and composed of tiny, yet significant, steps; and it may be deliberate and planned. Every bit helps, and every bit counts.

I venture to say there is nothing we know of with greater value than that rich biodiversity capped by sentient species. Thus I do not see any more important work to be done. And when the importance of the mission is considered, I see far too little being done. For the harvest to be gained is mighty. Think of the myriad of generations; consider that our discoveries are just beginning. So I am keen to prompt a recognition, a renewed respect for nature, and a dedication to the purpose of enabling a rich future for our planet and for the human species.

I'm not just talking about the climate emergency, although that is important and urgent. It is time we weighed up all the causes of extinction, the risks each poses, the remedial measures feasible, and time we took actions to moderate those risks. Methodical consideration is warranted; lest we fail through neglect.

To start, I want to list some of the likely causes of extinction.

And then advance the thesis that nearly all of those causes can be significantly ameliorated by human agency.

And I will try to identify the most wanting of attention and action, and the forms that could take.

Thank you for your interest.
